About

The aim

Most people only ever consider two phone systems, Android and iOS. Both are closed in ways that matter. You can't see how the whole system works, you can't change it without giving up your device, and you can't build on it without asking permission.

We want to change that. This project is open to everyone, whether you want to experiment, learn, or just have fun. We don't want to be owned by one of the tech giants. The hardware we support is the hardware people care about. If your device isn't on the list, think of it as an invitation to learn something new rather than a dead end.

Devices shouldn't become unusable just because the manufacturer stopped sending updates. That's why we're starting with older devices from around 2015, and why our first target is the HTC One M8s (m8qlul).

Where Diol is today

Diol is still in its early stages and currently depends on the AOSP. We plan to move away from it step by step. We forked from LineageOS 13.0 (Android 6.0), which is a pretty old version of Android, so we're carrying some baggage from the start. We still need to figure out things like the future Diol SDK and whether to support Android compatibility.
